Paradise Found

April 6, 2010

Anna Gonowon is one of those brides that you always remember. She lights up the room with her infectious laugh that seems to linger long after she has left. Her vision of a reception that incorporated her Filipino lineage with the southern charm of Charleston, was brought to life at the William-Aiken House. With exotic flowers imported from Hawaii, vibrant carlisle covering the tables and the faint glow of paper lanterns swinging from oak trees, this wedding was a fusion of Filipino heritage and southern elegance.

The Gonowon – Hall wedding last Saturday, March 27, was one of those total body experiences — from the eye popping aesthetics, to the delicious southern/Asian cuisine and the body-moving sounds of The Maxx — all five senses were tingling with excitement.

The inspiration was centered around a beautiful, bright carlisle lamour. Pinks, reds, yellows and teals were sprinkled throughout the decor. From the sheer, red swag of the tent to the carlisle drum shades that hovered over the dance floor… color was an element that transformed this space into a tropical oasis. Billowing flowers that channeled the islands in the Pacific sprung from white vases, exploding in colors of orange, hot pink, yellow and red.

From the moment the Atlanta-based band, The Maxx, took the stage, they got the party started in “Club Anna,” singing everything from Frank Sinatra to the Black Eyed Peas. As the night wound down and guests lined up to give the bride and groom and sparkler farewell, Chinese takeout boxes were passed out as favors, hiding a delicious surprise — a scrumptious double chocolate cupcake dipped in chocolate, from Cupcake — labeled with “Sweet Dreams… Anna and Roland.”

The wedding was certainly a dream,  sweeter than any.

summer menus that make me melt….

July 8, 2009

scan0001OH! the joys of summer! One of my favorite things about summertime is the fabulous flavors of the season. Chad Glasscock of the Island Chef is preparing a four course tasting menu for Melissa & her family on Friday evening. Melissa & 25 of her family members will eat on the oceanfront porch of their Edisto Beach house and Chad & crew will wine & dine them. As you can tell by the menu- the Island Chef has prepared a fabulous fare using the freshest and -most importantly- all local ingredients. I took the morning helping to design the menu cards (thanks to special help & the artwork from the gals at Studio-R!) & gather a few props to make the tablescape as unforgettable as the food. Aside from the fact that Chad is Carrie’s husband- (& that we love to reap the benefits of office leftovers!)- we love to refer the Island Chef for intimate dinner or cocktail parties, bridal luncheons and post wedding brunches.
